Copycat Epicure Cheese Dip Mix
I have both attended and hosted an Epicure party, and both times the sales person served their extraordinary baked cheese dip to everyone. That stuff is like crack and it's all part of their plan- because to make it yourself you have to buy not one but THREE overpriced jars of seasoning. That ends up coming to around $30 just for seasonings alone (then you have to buy all the cheeses too!).
I was determined to crack their cheese dip, so what I did is individually conquer each of the three dip mixes it's made of, and then combine them. Here it is...
Copycat Epicure cheese dip mix (single use)
1 1/4 teaspoons chives
1 teaspoon dried dill
1 teaspoon dried onion flakes
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon bacon bits
3/4 teaspoon parmesan cheese
1/2 teaspoon dill seed
1/2 teaspoon dried lemon peel
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon dried parsley
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
pinch thyme
What else you'll need
1 package of cream cheese (8 oz)
1 cup mayo, yogurt or sour cream
1/2 cup shredded cheddar
1/2 cup shredded mozzarella
Combine mix with wet ingredients in a small covered casserole dish.
Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 20-30 minutes. I stirred mine halfway through so the spices would mix once the cheese had begun to melt.
Serve hot with veggies, sliced baguette or corn chips. Or in my case all 3...
Don't worry about leftovers. There won't be any. I just saved you $30, as well as from a pushy salesperson trying to get you to host a party. You're welcome :)
I haven't attended or hosted an Epicure party. I've never heard of Epicure. Now I don't have to! I'll just make your recipe. :)

Use light mayo! Also, I double the shredded cheeses
DeleteThe original recipe from epicure uses mayo, although using yogurt we didn't have issues. It will be a bit runny from all the fat melting probably.
ReplyDeleteIf you use half fat Hellman's mayonaise and lowfat cheeses it turns out much nicer..
DeleteThis recipe is so great!! I used Mayo & it did not seperate. Sooo darn good! Less salty that the Epicure recipe believe it or not. I also did not add dried chives or dill seed (didn't have any), substituted Onion flakes with onion soup mix. Everything turned out wonderfully!!

DeleteThe truth is that while Epicure may have started out as a family business run out of a truck at the farmer's market, it's morphed into a middle level management/pyramid scheme where money is made by trying to convince people to 'throw parties' selling heavily marked up merchandise so that those people can do the same. The problem is that the market is now so saturated with these 'businesses' (Younique, jamberry, scentsy) that all it does is make people hide anyone who falls into these ventures from their news feeds. The only thing genuine about epicure now are the recipes, which I can make with herbs I've grown in my own backyard.
DeleteI sold Epicure and they really do not care about their consultants at all!. it's all about money. I'm glad for this recipe because I don't feel right buying their product anymore

I can't purchase Epicure in the states, they won't ship it here so aside from the debate about whether or not spices are cheaper or healthier buying through epicure or another source. Spices in bulk would most definitely be cheaper though and even buying jars at the grocery store which averaged me about $3 a jar is enough of the spices to make this recipe fifty times if not more. I can't speak to the quality of the epicure spices and how they are farmed but I know until they start shipping or selling to the US I am very grateful for this recipe.
ReplyDeleteI'm with Tori. In fact, that's why I was searching for a recipe. Epicure isn't sold in Tennessee. I know about it because I was gifted it by family members in Canada.

ReplyDeleteThis dip is awesome made it last night, had the Epicure one at a show last week. I can not and will not justify the almost $40 it would cost to buy the spice mixes. I already had all but 2 of the spices required in my very average kitchen that I use for my normal cooking. Thank you Lulu, job well done!

ReplyDeleteThe two things I've learnt over time is don't use the no name Cream cheeze that is the cause of the oilyness when you use mayonaise. I never promote any brand usually but philidelpia cream cheeze is the best.. and second is there are always ways around using these expensive spice mixs...and there are so many. Just have fun and try different ways. thanks for the break down though on this recipie.
